The first fifteen GAMM-Seminars, called the Annual GAMM-Seminar Kiel, were held at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in 1984 and 1986-1999.
In 2000, the sixteenth seminar took place at the Max-Planck-Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, and since then, it has therefore been referred to as the Annual GAMM-Seminar Leipzig.
Since the first seminar in 1984, Wolfgang Hackbusch has been organiser and chairman of all GAMM-Seminars. In most cases, organisation and chairmanship have been done in cooporation with other well known numerical mathematicians.
