Basic Notions in (Geometric) Group Theory

  • Lecturer: Karim Adiprasito
  • Date: Monday 11:00 - 13:00
  • Room: University, Room A-314
  • Language: German or English
  • Target audience: MSc students, PhD students, Postdocs
  • Keywords: Geoemtric group theory, growth of groups, topologial group theory
  • Prerequisites: Course in Algebra 1 is recommended.

Abstract:

Geometric group theory studies finitely presented groups using geometric properties of associated graphs. We discuss new developments, such as Kleiner's new proof of Gromov's theorem on polynomial growth and Bridson's lower bounds for the Andrews- Curtis conjecture.
