PhD Student and Postdoctoral Researcher Positions in Cluster Algebras at MPI MiS Leipzig

The Max Planck Research Group "Cluster Algebras" of Dani Kaufman has openings for

PhD Student and Postdoctoral Researcher Positions.

The group is based at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. Salary is competitive based on experience and qualification and working conditions are excellent, with a dedicated and competent staff. Relevant initiatives (conferences, workshops, etc) can be funded.

While the central topic of the research group is cluster algebra theory, we take special interest in studying symmetry groups and invariants of cluster algebras, Grassmannian cluster algebras and singularity theory, applications to hyperbolic geometry, symplectic geometry, and Teichmüller theory, non-commutative cluster algebras and quantisation, and applications to Physics such as computation of scattering amplitudes.

We are currently developing some mathematical software to aid in our computations with cluster algebras. Some programming familiarity and experience with mathematical software like Sage or Mathematica or even familiarity with functional programming languages like OCaml will be expected from successful applicants.

We offer:

  • Postdoctoral position for 1-3 year. (TVÖD E13) / PhD position for 3 years (comparable to 65% TVÖD E13).
  • No teaching duties, but the postdoc has the possibility to teach an advanced course in our international graduate school.
  • We provide a scientific environment where you are encouraged to explore new scientific directions and where you will find many partners with whom you can discuss a wide range of scientific ideas.
