Bending representations of surface groups

This talk is about linear representations of fundamental groups of closed surfaces. We will present a very simple way to deform such representations called bending or twisting. Our main result states that this deformation is in some sense quite generic. If time permits, we will give applications to the algebraic structure of representation varieties of surface groups. This is an ongoing work with Vasily Rogov and Michael Zshornack.
