Postdoctoral Research Scientist.

The group is based at the Max Planck Institute of Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, within the larger ‘Geometry, Groups, and Dynamics’ group of Anna Wienhard.

Our primary focus are computational, combinatorial, and dynamical aspects of three-dimensional manifolds. We welcome applications from early career researchers working in low-dimensional topology or dynamics. For a more detailed overview of the group’s research scope, please see https://www.mis.mpg.de/low-dimensional-topology.

We offer:

  • Initial appointment for two years, with the option of a one-year extension subject to review.
  • Salary according to TVöD-Bund Entgeltgruppe E13.
  • No teaching duties, but there is a possibility to teach an advanced course for graduate students.
  • Funding for travel.
  • Excellent research environment, with strong activity in neighboring areas such as differential geometry, Teichmüller theory, geometric group theory, Lie theory, cluster algebras, and others.

Application materials:

  • Cover letter/statement of purpose
The length should not exceed one page.
No need to include addresses or salutations.
At the top left of the document, clearly state your preferred start date.
The body of the letter should include a brief outline of how your research interests align with the scope of the Low-Dimensional Topology group at MPI MiS and an explanation of why you would like to join this group.
  • CV
  • List of publications (if not included in the CV)
  • PhD certificate
If you have not yet received your PhD certificate: Please upload a short statement about the current status of your studies and expected PhD thesis submission date, as well as a brief summary of your thesis.
  • Research statement
  • Names and contact information of at least two referees willing to supply letters of recommendation.
If you have not yet completed your PhD, one of your referees must be your doctoral advisor.
