Hello! My name is Dan Kráľ. I joined Leipzig University and MPI MiS in April 2025 with the generous support of the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, for which I was jointly nominated by Leipzig University and MPI MiS. Before moving to Leipzig, I was the inaugural holder of the Donald Ervin Knuth Professorship at Masaryk University in Brno, a professorship chair in computer science that the Faculty of Informatics created with the permission of Donald Knuth. I am also an honorary professor at the University of Warwick, where, before moving to Brno, I was a professor of mathematics and computer science and a member of its Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP).

My research addresses various topics in (discrete) mathematics and (theoretical) computer science, and at their interface. I primarily focus on structural and extremal graph theory, discrete algorithms and combinatorial limits. In particular, the theory of combinatorial limits is an emerging area of mathematics which provides analytic methods to study large graphs, e.g., graphs representing social networks. These analytic methods have led to new ways to deal with notoriously difficult extremal combinatorics questions and established new links between analysis, combinatorics, ergodic theory, group theory and probability theory.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and visiting historic sites, especially places with a story to tell. I also have a passion for modern art. And I am always up for playing a board game or watching a good movie.
