Juliette Bruce

Juliette Bruce is a fifth-year graduate student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison advised by Daniel Erman. Her interests lie towards the algebraic side of things, with her current research being somewhere in the intersection of algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, and arithmetic geometry. More specifically she is interested in using syzygies and other homological methods to study the geometry of projective varieties, as well as studying explicit methods in positive characteristic. She is also interested in how computation can be used in these fields.

She first visited MPI MiS in Fall 2016 to work with Madeline Brandt on studying the degree of the special orthogonal group, and its relations to semi-definite programming. During the Summer of 2019, she visited MPI MiS again for the Summer School on Randomness and Learning.

Outside of math Juliette really enjoys running, climbing, and skiing. When in Leipzig she especially enjoys running through all of the beautiful parks.
