Ramdorai Sujatha: Elliptic curves and Number theory
(Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, School of Mathematics, Mumbai, India)
- Date:
June 25th, 2008, 4:15 p.m. - Location:
Felix Klein Hörsaal, Mathematisches Institut, Johannisgasse 26, 04103 Leipzig - Abstract:
Number theory and geometry are two areas in mathematics which have a long history and legacy from different civilizations. After a brief general introduction, we shall focus on some problems in Number theory which are simply stated, but have remained open for centuries. We shall explain how these problems are related to deep conjectures in modern arithmetic geometry and discuss some techniques of attacking these problems.
