Seven Lectures in Algebraic Statistics

  • Lecturer: Eliana Duarte, Orlando Marigliano
  • Date: Monday 13:00 to 14:30, starting October 21
  • Room: MPI MiS G3 10
  • Keywords: Algebra, Statistics, Causality, conditional independence, Fisher's exact test, Markov basis
  • Prerequisites: Some knowledge in Algebraic Geometry at the level of Cox, Little, Oshea's book "Ideals varieties and algorithms"
  • Remarks: This course consists of seven lectures. The last three lectures will serve as preparatory lectures for those interested in attending the Spring School in Mathematical Statistics taking place March 30-April 3 at MPI MIS Leipzig.

Abstract

The goal of the Seven Lectures in Algebraic Statistics is to give a practical introduction to several topics in Algebraic Statistics. No previous knowledge of statistics will be assumed. Familiarity with algebra at the level of Cox, Little, O’Shea’s book “Ideals, varieties, and algorithms” is a plus. The lecture will be 60 minutes long and be followed by a 30 minute practical session in R or Macaulay2. The last three lectures will serve as preparatory lectures to attend the Spring School in Mathematical Statistics that will take place at MPI Leipzig March 30th to April 3rd .

The lecture series has its own webpage. For more information please check https://emduart2.github.io/teaching/

Regular lectures: Winter semester 2019/2020
