Large N limits of the 2 dimensional Yang-Mills measure

This talk will be concerned with the notion of heat kernel and Brownian motion on compact Lie groups and their relation with the Yang-Mills measure in two dimensions. We shall review some open problems and recent advances in their study, as the dimension of the compact Lie groups goes to infinity. Some of the latter are part of a joint work with J. Norris.
