Abstract

This talk deals with collaborations between music pedagogues on the one hand and physicists, physiologists, and neurophysiologists on the other over the past two centuries in order to glean information on piano playing. Their goal was to see if somehow the universal principles of mechanics and dynamics could lead to improvements in the teaching of the piano. The talk is meant to provide a historical framework to engage with current issues dealing with the role of artificial intelligence in music.
