Our director Anna Wienhard has recently been elected to the Academia Europaea. This independent European association promotes research across Europe, advises governments and international organizations, and supports interdisciplinary and international collaboration in science.
Anna Wienhard's research interests lie at the intersection of geometry, topology, and dynamic systems. Symmetries and symmetry groups play a central role in this context. In addition, Anna Wienhard is interested in the interplay between fundamental mathematical research and applications in other sciences. She collaborates with researchers from other disciplines, to explore applications of geometric and topological methods outside of mathematics. Anna Wienhard has been honored with numerous awards and distinctions for her scientific achievements, including an ERC Consolidator Grant and an ERC Advanced Grant from the European Research Council.
Following Felix Otto, who was appointed to the Academia Europaea in 2015, Anna Wienhard is now another representative of our institute to join this prestigious association.
The Academia Europaea is an independent, European, non-governmental association dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of scientific excellence in the humanities, law, economics, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and all branches of natural and technical sciences—worldwide, for the public good and for the promotion of education across all age groups. The academy's goal is to strengthen European research, to advise governments and international organizations on scientific issues, and to further promote interdisciplinary and international research.
