Mikhail Glazkov

Published October 21, 2025

Hello, my name is Mikhail Glazkov (I also respond to Misha or Michael). Since August 2025, I am a PhD student in the Applied Analysis group of László Székelyhidi.

My fascination with mathematics began early, through participation in school mathematical Olympiads. I completed my bachelor’s degree at Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Sciences of Saint Petersburg State University, where I focused on partial differential equations and worked under the supervision of Timofey Shilkin on parabolic equations with singular drift. I then moved to Brazil for a master’s degree at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), where I started a collaboration with Alexei Mailybaev on shell models of turbulence. Through this work, I was closely introduced to fluid dynamics, particularly the intermittency effect, which characterizes deviations from the Kolmogorov 1941 laws describing certain statistical properties of the Navier–Stokes equations. During my PhD, I hope to broaden my understanding of fluid dynamics phenomena, as well as to master the technique of convex integration, for which the Applied Analysis group is so well known.

Outside of mathematics, I am an enthusiastic volleyball player and a chess lover. Having lived in Brazil for two years, I greatly missed the snow and skiing, a passion of mine since childhood, and I hope to find new opportunities for skiing in Germany. I also enjoy hiking and exploring new places.
