Xi-Yuan (Bruce) Yin

Published March 10, 2026

Hello! My name is Xi-Yuan (Bruce) Yin. I've been a postdoc in the Applied Analysis group of Prof. László Székelyhidi since August 2024. I work mainly on computational methods for the incompressible Euler equations, in particular, in context of the Convex Integration schemes.

Before coming to Leipzig, I did a PhD in numerical analysis at McGill university under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Christophe Nave and a postdoc in fluid mechanics at l'École Centrale de Lyon with Prof. Wouter Bos. I'm interested in the study of fluid dynamics and related equations from both the analysis and computational points of view. I am very happy to be part of the MPI, the past year here has greatly broadened and enriched my understanding of the field.

Outside of mathematics, I enjoy playing tennis and I am learning the cello. One of my favorite works of music are the cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach, so it is also a special experience for me to live in the city where Bach produced a lot of his work. I look forward to discovering more about Leipzig's culture and history.
