New Impetus from Three New Research Groups

Published January 20, 2026

Last year, we have been pleased to welcome three new research group leaders to our institute. They enrich both the breadth of our research topics and the inspiring collaborative atmosphere at the institute. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Anna Parlak, Dani Kaufman, and Bian Wu.

Anna Parlak has been building her own research group since October. Her group studies topological, combinatorial, dynamical, and geometric aspects of low-dimensional manifolds, with a particular focus on dimension three.

Dani Kaufman has been a group leader since October. Her research interests center around cluster algebras and their applications to geometry, physics, and number theory. Cluster algebras are structures at the interface of algebra and combinatorics that appear in surprising ways throughout mathematics.

Bian Wu launched his research group “Mathematical Fluid Dynamics” in September. His research addresses two central problems in incompressible fluids—turbulence and singularity formation—aiming both to resolve key questions in each area and to reveal links between them through new insights.
