Aida Maraj is a PhD student at the University of Kentucky working on applications of algebra and combinatorics under the supervision of Uwe Nagel. She visited MPI MiS for the “Randomness and Learning in Non-Linear Algebra” summer school.
Her interests are in discovering ways how one can use the algebra machinery to study problems from the statistics world. Her main objects of study are hierarchical models. She studies algebraic and geometric properties of these models and algorithms that produce Markov bases for them. In particular, she cares about how they behave asymptotically and is working on questions related to the equivariant Hilbert series.
