Mathias Drton is Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the Technical University of Munich, a position he took up two years ago after having spent the majority of his career in the United States (Chicago, Seattle). His research treats methodological and theoretical aspects of statistical problems involving multivariate data. A particular focus lies on graphical models, for which algebraic methods have proven useful in many different ways.

Mathias recently visited MPI on the occasion of the institute's 25th anniversary and is looking forward to many more visits in the years to come.
