Thorsten Theobald is a Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt, Institute of Mathematics since 2006. His main research interests center around discrete mathematics, real algebraic geometry and optimization. The mathematical problems which make him curious often involve a combination of several of these areas as well as computational questions.
His connection to nonlinear algebra was significantly influenced by two postdoctoral stays at the MSRI and at the University of California at Berkeley quite some time ago. Currently, he is primarily concerned with polynomial and signomial optimization, spectrahedra as well as stable and hyperbolic polynomials.
In his free time, he enjoys time with his family as well as various outdoor or sporting activities.
