Results on the Kohn-Sham system

  • Joachim Rehberg (WIAS Berlin)
A3 01 (Sophus-Lie room)

Abstract

The Kohn-Sham system has been well established as an instrument for calculations in several branches of physics and chemistry since many years (Nobel Prize 1998). Astonishingly, it had not been investigated mathematically as concerns questions as

  • existence of solutions and their regularity
  • uniqueness
  • strict justification of numerical procedures

before the last years. The author presents results on this item which he obtained together with H.-C. Kaiser in 96/97.
