Hello, my name is Sebastian Bürger and I'm a PhD student in the Applied Analysis group of László Székelyhidi.
I am particularly passionate about fluid dynamics and the mathematics used within this field, especially the underlying PDE theory. Specifically, I am part of a DFG research group "Mathematical Study of Geophysical Flow Models: Analysis and Computation". Our subgroup is concerned with the numerical implementation of Convex Integration, first and foremost for certain solutions to the Euler equations , i.e. the equations that govern inviscid fluid flow. These solutions led to the resolution of Onsager's conjecture and are of interest for understanding turbulent fluid motion.
Hiking, cycling, playing board games and table tennis are my main free time activities. Leipzig and especially its surroundings are well suited for the first two passions, as it offers hilly and scenic landscapes, intersected by several small rivers and occasionally inhabited by impressive castles.
Mathematical and natural science competitions, much like in Anton Ullrich's case, played an important role in my youth, bringing me together with other like-minded students that became close friends over the years. A particular role in that was played by the "Leipzig Students Association for Mathematics" (LSGM), which trained us for Olympiads on a weekly basis and organized a summer math camp that was one of our yearly highlights during school time. Today, I switched roles and am now teaching young interested students, something that I vividly enjoy.
