Arthur Bik

Arthur Bik is a PhD student at the University of Bern under the supervision of Jan Draisma. Starting in August, he will be a researcher in the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI MiS.
He is mainly interested in problems in affine algebraic geometry that involve actions from general linear groups, like ones related to polynomial functors or tensors. For example, together with Jan Draisma, Rob Eggermont and Andrew Snowden, they proved that proper closed subsets of polynomial functors always arise from smaller polynomial functors, which roughly means that tensors with structure always admit simpler descriptions. He is looking forward to thinking about a great variety of problems together with the people at the MPI.
Outside of mathematics, Arthur likes playing board games/video games and hiking with his friends. His favorite food is pasta.
