Nonlinear Algebra People - 2021

Tobias Boege

October 25, 2021

Tobias Boege is a postdoctoral researcher in the non-linear algebra group since October 2021. Previously he was a PhD fellow of the research training group "Mathematical Complexity Reduction" in Magdeburg, which is a short distance from Leipzig, so he visited the MPI on multiple occasions.

Tobias's research interests are in independence structures, such as matroids, gaussoids and semigraphoids, how they arise as combinatorial shadows of geometric and probabilistic objects and how to derive theorems about their structure using a computer. These topics are especially interesting when they require a blend of methods from algebraic geometry, computer science and statistics.

In his spare time, Tobias likes to read and is looking forward to picking up table tennis again in Leipzig.
