My name is Sebastian Falkensteiner and I am a PostDoc at the MPI MiS in Leipzig. I got my PhD in 2020 from Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria under the supervision of Franz Winkler at the institute RISC Hagenberg. My thesis is about finding solutions of algebraic, nonlinear differential equations by using methods from algebraic geometry. Following the guidelines of RISC, this is done symbolically and in an algorithmic way.
At the MPI MiS I will pursue this approach and combine it with other techniques coming from tropical algebra, real algebraic geometry and maybe some other areas I do not know yet. The workshop on differential algebra in June 2022 here at MPI has been a great kick-off and already several interesting new projects have been started. I hope with the help of the colleagues from here, we will be able to successfully apply algebraic geometry and differential algebra to these various questions and open problems.
Outside mathematics, I love to do sports and in particular running. In Austria, I have been part of the mountain running national team, which is now challenging to maintain, but the wetlands and forests in and around Leipzig are a good replacement of Austrian's mountains and will keep me fit.
