Corey Harris

Corey Harris finished his PhD in April under the supervision of Paolo Aluffi at Florida State University and is now a postdoc at MPI MiS.

His research focuses on intersection theory and its applications. In particular, he is interested in effective methods for the computation of characteristic classes (like the Euler characteristic) in singular settings. The fundamental object in this area is the Segre class of a subscheme of a variety, which captures important information about the embedding. More recently, Corey has been interested in the Euclidean distance degree of projective varieties and the topological nature of this enumerative problem.
