Nonlinear Algebra People - 2019

Alexander Heaton

June 21, 2019

Alexander Heaton is a postdoctoral fellow in the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI. He graduated with his PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee this May 2019. Before and during graduate school, Alex enjoyed listening to, recording, and performing the music of many genres. In particular, he almost always listens to music while thinking about math.

His mathematical interests include representation theory, combinatorics, and applied algebra. He especially enjoys thinking about geometry and symmetry in higher dimensions and describing the patterns using combinatorics. He is hoping to expand his research interests by collaborating with the wonderful people at MPI MiS. In particular, he is interested in algebraic statistics, SOS polynomials and optimization, and tensegrity structures.
