Hana Melanova

May 14, 2021

Hana Melanova finished her PhD studies in December 2020 at the University of Vienna, Austria. In her PhD thesis, she combined techniques and methods from differential and algebraic geometry and invariant theory to find a new geometrically flavored algorithm resolving curve singularities. Since January 2021, Hana is a research postdoc in the START-project of Harald Grobner at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Hana is fascinated by beautiful mathematics which has important applications. She is especially interested in geometric and combinatorial problems of computational flavor. She is looking forward to learning new areas of mathematics and to new collaborations during her one-year research stay as a postdoc in the Non-Linear Algebra Group of Bernd Sturmfels starting in January 2022.

Aside from mathematics, Hana is very active in sports which she considers as her most important hobby. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and friends.
