Anthea Monod is an Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University in New York. She has a PhD in Statistics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).
Anthea’s research leverages pure mathematics to handle complex data structures for classical statistical analysis. As faculty in the Department of Systems Biology at the Columbia University Medical Center, she is particularly interested in complex and high-dimensional data arising from various applications in biology, such as whole genome data, spatial cellular data, biomedical images, and phylogenetic trees. She adapts theory from abstract algebra, geometry, and topology to such data, and develops methodology in topological data analysis (based on algebraic topology) and tropical statistics (based on tropical geometry).
Anthea visits the MPI frequently and collaborates actively with several researchers based at the MPI in Leipzig. She recently attended the workshop on Open Source Computer Algebra Research (OSCAR), and was an invited speaker at Linking Topology to Algebraic Geometry and Statistics (TAGS), and A Tropical Panorama.
