Nina Otter

Nina Otter’s research is mainly focused on using techniques and ideas from algebraic topology and geometry to study invariants of data with complex structure. Some of the projects on which she is currently working include the development of a topological signature for the morphology of galaxies, as well as using persistent homology to analyze climate data. While most of her research is motivated from real-world applications, she also likes to work on purely theoretical problems, such as the study of finiteness properties of groups using methods from category theory.

Nina Otter is one of the executive editors for Compositionality, a new open-access journal publishing research in the mathematics of composition, which opened for submissions for its first issue on 24 August 2018. She is a postdoc in the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI MiS until the end of 2018, and a Computational and Applied Mathematics assistant professor (CAM) in the mathematics department at University of California, Los Angeles.
