My name is Raul Penaguiao. I am a PostDoc at the MPI in Leipzig. I got my PhD in 2020 from Zurich University in Switzerland, under the supervision of Valentin Féray. I have always been interested in combinatorics, and in my doctoral thesis I explored the interplay between Hopf algebras, polytopes and algebraic combinatorics. I recently got the change to visit San Francisco to learn and work on tropical geometry and matroids, as well as to learn about how inclined the streets are in the city of San Francisco.
At the MPI MiS I am learning about Rough Paths, a novel notion of paths that sits between Brownian motions and smooth paths. It turns out that a lot of interesting varieties arise naturally in this context, that can easily connect analysis and combinatorics of words!
I am liking Leipzig so far. Significantly flatter than San Francisco. I enjoy much more my commutes on the bike now.
