Michael Ruddy

August 16, 2019

Michael Ruddy is a postdoctoral researcher in the Nonlinear Algebra research group at the MPI MiS. He finished his PhD at the North Carolina State University in May 2019 under the supervision of Irina Kogan and Cynthia Vinzant. His PhD work centered around how differential invariants can be used to study equivalence classes of planar algebraic curves.

His research interests are in applied differential and algebraic geometry. In particular, he is interested in invariants and symmetry and how they can be applied to data and image science.

Outside of research, he is also interested in mathematics teaching methods. When not teaching, reading, or discussing mathematics, he enjoys indoor rock climbing, hiking, and gardening.
