Nonlinear Algebra People - 2018

Tim Seynnaeve

July 30, 2018

Tim Seynnaeve is a first year PhD student at MPI MiS under the supervision of Mateusz Michalek.

Tim is interested in representation theory, algebraic geometry, and their applications to tensors. In his main project, he is using algebraic methods to determine the algorithmic complexity of matrix multiplication. He is also working on a side project in which he is looking at matrix product states, certain tensors arising from quantum physics, from a geometric point of view.

Tim also has a side interest in combinatorics. Together with Amanda Cameron, Rodica Dinu, and Mateusz Michalek, he is trying to understand and generalize the connection between matroids and the K-theory of Grassmannians.
