Mariel Supina is a fourth-year math PhD student at the University of California, Berkeley. In Summer and Fall 2019 she is a visiting student in the Discrete Geometry group at Freie Universität Berlin. Her advisor is Federico Ardila.
For her research, she is interested in problems in algebraic combinatorics which have a polytopal flavor. She especially enjoys thinking about combinatorial Hopf monoids, Coxeter groups, Ehrhart theory, and matroid theory. She recently visited MPI MiS to work with Chris Eur and Mario Sanchez on Coxeter matroid valuations. More generally, Mariel is involved with efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in mathematics and is always looking to learn about that, too.
Outside of doing math, Mariel likes rock climbing, salsa dancing, and learning to speak German.
