Martin Vodička is a Phd student of Mateusz Michalek at the MPI since September 2018.

His area of research is in combinatorial algebraic geometry, he studies algebraic varieties which properties can be described by combinatorial structure. In particular, he likes toric varieties or more generally varieties with a torus action. His favorite objects of study include varieties and polytopes coming from phylogenetic models and also the variety of complete quadrics which they use with Mateusz Michalek, Tim Seynnaeve and others for computing ML degrees.

Outside of math, Martin is a bridge player and has represented Slovakia at many international events. For those who do not know, bridge is a card game. Besides that he also likes hiking.
