Caroline Uhler

Caroline Uhler is on the faculty of electrical engineering and computer science at MIT. She is interested in applications of algebraic geometry and combinatorics to statistics, machine learning and genomics. She is particularly fascinated by how combinatorial and algebraic structure can be used to uncover statistical and computational limitations for causal inference and develop new algorithms to learn causal structure from data.

Caroline visited MPI Leipzig for the first time in 2017 and then again in 2019 for the conference “Developments in the Mathematical Sciences”. She fondly remembers the mix of great talks combined with opera. Besides doing math, Caroline enjoys traveling and getting to know new places, cultures and food, as well as hiking and generally being outdoors.
