Nonlinear Algebra People - 2022

Maximilian Wiesmann

December 7, 2022

My name is Maximilian Wiesmann and I have just started a PhD at MPI MiS in the Nonlinear Algebra group under the supervision of Eliana Duarte. I received my Master's degree from the University of Cambridge with an essay on homological mirror symmetry and before that I did my Bachelor's degree at the University of Bonn where I wrote a thesis on curve counting invariants.

During my PhD I will be working on algebraic statistics, in particular applying techniques from toric geometry to statistical problems. Generally, I'm interested in algebraic geometry and I'm excited to get to know more geometric applications here at MPI MiS.

Besides doing maths, I enjoy playing the trombone in both classical and jazz ensembles and reading good novels.
