Abstract

After presenting some brief history of domain decomposition and substructuring, we formulate the BDDC method and theoretical condition bounds. The adaptive method adds new coarse degrees of freedom on substructure interfaces as needed to recover good condition bounds, while the multilevel method applies BDDC recursively. The combination is capable of solving large difficult industrial problems in elasticity. Two implementations of BDDC are discussed, by global matrices and on top of the frontal solver.
