Declaration on Accessibility

The Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Science endeavors to design the website in accordance with the applicable accessibility regulations. We are guided by the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0).

This declaration on accessibility applies to the website https://www.mis.mpg.de/.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with accessibility requirements due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

No full accessibility

  • Content is not always available in two languages (German and English)
  • Easy language and Sign language is not available
  • Accessible PDF documents are not available
  • Keyboard usability: some areas are not optimally accessible with the keyboard
  • Reading order and focus order: reading order and focus order for screen readers do not always make sense
  • Alternative texts in German and Englisch are not for all non-text content elements available
  • Recorded video content does not always have subtitles

Disproportionate burden

The following content will not be made available barrier-free because this would result in a disproportionate burden for us:

  • Subtitle for archived videos: Subtitles will not be added to videos that are already part of the archive.
  • Archived press releases, news and other articles: Articles of all kinds that have already been archived will not be subsequently revised for accessibility

Exceptions to the scope of accessibility regulations

The following non-accessible content on this website does not fall under the scope of our accessibility requirements:

  • Embedded (third-party) content (e.g. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

Further measures to improve the accessibility of our website

The Max-Planck-Institute of Mathematics in the Sciences is continuously working to improve their website. However, due to the extensive amount of existing materials, not all content and services have yet been made digitally accessible. We strive to make the website as accessible as possible and to ensure it is usable for everyone. To achieve this, we follow the principles of the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines):

Perceptibility:

  • Many images have alternative texts in German and English
  • Elements of the website are distinguished by sufficient contrast from the background
  • Responsive web design allows flexible screen orientations and sizes
  • Color is not the only means of conveying information
  • Font size can be adjusted

Operability:

  • There are no keyboard traps
  • Flashing is avoided
  • The title describes the topic and purpose
  • Pages are accessible through various methods
  • Headings and descriptive labels explain the topic or purpose
  • Labels contain visible text

Comprehensibility:

  • Many contents are offered in both, German and English
  • Focus does not lead to context change
  • Input does not lead in context change
  • Navigation is built on consistency
  • Elements are labeled consistently

Robustness:

  • Website works across various devices and web browsers
  • Responsive web design enables smooth mobile usage
  • Extensive, regular testing ensures reliable functionality
