The “Leipzig Talks on Mathematics” series was created in the “Year of Mathematics 2008”. We realized the talks over several years in close cooperation with the city of Leipzig, the Felix-Klein-Colleg Leipzig and the Mathematical Institute of the University of Leipzig.
Top international mathematicians spoke about exciting mathematical topics and tried to inspire their audience.

Felix Klein (1849–1925) was not only one of the most influential mathematicians of his time, but also a passionate mediator between science, society, and education.
The documentary Felix Klein – Insights from the Outside aims to present Klein’s mathematics — in particular his innovative view of geometry — to a wider audience. Geometry is not limited to measuring lengths and angles. It is the study of symmetries and transformations of space. Discover the life and work of Felix Klein, explore his groundbreaking contributions to geometry, including the famous Erlangen Program, and encounter mathematical ideas that continue to have an impact today.
30 years ago, the first of now six Max Planck Institutes was founded in Saxony. Join us in celebrating the success story of the Saxon MPIs with numerous events in Leipzig and Dresden.
On March 1, 1996, our institute officially opened its doors at Inselstraße 22.
In this column we would like to remember – together with you – experiences and achievements that have accompanied us over the years.
