Abstract

This talk addresses the issue of extending the PDE description of a dilute Bose gas beyond the regime of the Gross-Pitaevskii (cubic-nonlinear-Schroedinger equation) regime. In particular, I will discuss two interrelated aspects of this problem: (i) The modeling of atomic pair correlations (beyond the Gross-Pitaevskii limit). (ii) An effective, homogenized description of the Bose gas for a scattering length with periodic microstructure.
