Abstract

Tensor methods are efficient in high-dimensional problems, but usually they are not well-suited for low-dimensional case. For example, there are explicit formulae for the inverse of the Laplace operator, but in two-dimensional case they outperform the simplest FFT-scheme only for very fine grids, which may not be required. In this talk, I will present a new approach for the approximate inversion of the Laplace operator in the low-rank format. Application to the Stokes problem will be considered.
