Conference in memoriam of EBERHARD ZEIDLER (1940-2016)
On November 18, 2016 the founding director of the MPI for Mathematics in the Sciences Eberhard Zeidler passed away. The renowned scientist devoted his life to his own scientific vision that was concerned with the deep unity of mathematics and theoretical physics. His multi-volume-treatises on "Nonlinear Functional Analysis" and on "Quantum Field Theory" are long-lasting witnesses of this vision that will continue to influence generations of young scientists entering the exciting world between Mathematics and Physics. We owe Eberhard Zeidler not only scientific progress, but also crucial steps of the reformation and restructuring of the University of Leipzig after the collapse of the GDR and his leadership and grand vision in founding the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences.
On October 6, 2017 – his 77th birthday – we will commemorate Eberhard Zeidler, his scientific oeuvre, his charismatic personality, and his inspiring leadership and mentorship during a conference at his Max Planck Institute.
