We conduct research at the interface of mathematics and theoretical physics, making use of a high degree of cross-fertilization between physical ideas and intuition on the one hand and rigorous mathematical theory on the other.
Applications by candidates of outstanding qualification and a good fit with our research goals will always be considered.
The Center for Mathematical Physics facilitates and coordinates interdisciplinary research and teaching activities in this area at all levels: research, promotion of young researchers, graduate and undergraduate teaching.
Our research is centered around formal aspects of quantum field theory and string theory, with a particular focus on defects in quantum field theories. We explore mathematical structures appearing in these areas, as well as their applications in physics and mathematics.
Apart from this, we are also interested in applied topology and topological data analysis.
