Abstract:
Let S be a bounded simply connected two-dimensional domain and let g be a Riemannian on S with positive Gauss curvature. We study the restriction of the Willmore functional to the class of isometric immersions of the manifold (S, g) into three-dimensional Euclidean space, and we derive Euler-Lagrange equations for its critical points.
