Summer School on Numerical Computing in Algebraic Geometry
August 13 - 17, 2018
Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences
The aim of this summer school is to provide insight into numerical methods in algebraic geometry. Unlike traditional summer schools, special emphasis is put on the application and usage of software:
The intention is to familiarize participants with the techniques and provide hands-on experience with how they can be applied to problems. As such, the summer school will feature software sessions in lieu of traditional exercise sessions. All participants are strongly encouraged to bring their laptops; It is recommended to have installed MATLAB.
The lectures will be given by:
- Jonathan Hauenstein (University of Notre Dame, Indiana)
- Pablo A. Parrilo (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
- Nick Vannieuwenhoven (KU Leuven, Belgium)
Limited funding is available for early-career participants such as postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. Applicants are expected to submit a brief academic CV, a letter of recommendation, and to kindly agree to present their work in the form of a short talk or poster. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2018.
There will be dedicated slots for contributed talks.
