Continuum Mechanics Models of DNA Molecules

Abstract

Some analytical, numerical and experimental techniques arising in modelling small loops of DNA will be described. The experiments probe the mechanical properties of DNA, the mathematics involves symmetry breaking and stability exchange in isoperimetric calculus of variations problems, and the computations involve parameter continuation techniques and visualization.
