Mathematics as Metaphor

This lecture is intended to be an homage to Yuri MANIN who passed away in January 2023 and who contributedto science, and in particular to mathematics, in so many different ways. The book « Mathematics as Metaphor » presents a number of essaysthat he produced and in particular an expanded version of thelecture with this title he gave at the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Kyoto in 1990. The emphasis will be on tthe metaphoric approach of mathematics Yuri MANIN was advocating and on his vision of the interaction between mathematics and physics.
