Hi! My name is Patrick Heslin and I have been a postdoc in the Applied Analysis group since September 2024. I'm from a place called Leitrim in Ireland and I completed my Ph.D at the University of Notre Dame under the supervision of Prof. Gerard Misiołek.
My research interests lie primarily in the geometry and analysis of non-linear partial differential equations arising in fluid dynamics and other areas of mathematical physics. More specifically, I am interested in Riemannian geometry of diffeomorphism groups equipped with right invariant metrics of Sobolev-type.
Outside of mathematics, I enjoy relaxing with my girlfriend and our two cats, chats with friends, a good story, the GAA and poker.
I've really liked Leipzig since I arrived. I took up bouldering in August, so I'm having fun pursuing that! The people in my group have also been really welcoming; it's a great environment. I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here!
