James Reed Farre

Published February 18, 2025

My name is James Farre. I’m a hyperbolic geometer from Texas, USA. Yeehaw!
I started at the MPI MiS in October 2023, where I lead research group "Geometry on Surfaces".

Before coming to Leipzig, I was a JProf in Mathematics at Ruprechts-Karl-Universität Heidelberg and a Gibbs Assistant Professor and NSF postdoc at Yale University.
I completed my PhD with Kenneth Bromberg at the University of Utah in 2019.

In addition to geometry, dynamics, and discrete groups, I also love music, cycling, dancing, and climbing. In the summer, you’ll find me with my bike at Cospudener See, while in the Winter, you might find me at my favorite Boulderhalle, Onyx.
