Jean-Pierre Bourguignon is one the most renowned mathematicians in France, widely recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to differential geometry, global analysis, and mathematical physics. His work has significantly shaped modern mathematics and fostered interdisciplinary exchange within the international scientific community.

Bourguignon served as President of the European Research Council (ERC) from 2014 to 2019 and again as interim President in 2020/21. Previously, he was Director of one of the world’s leading research institutes for mathematics and theoretical physics, the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) in Bures-sur-Yvette, France, and a professor at the École Polytechnique. From 1969 to 2013, he was a researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Among other roles, he succeeded Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hirzebruch as the second President of the European Mathematical Society (EMS). For his outstanding achievements and dedication to science, he has received numerous honors and awards.
