Modellansatz Podcast “Algebraic Geometry” with Eliana Duarte Gelvez

Published Jun 28, 2018

Former MPI MiS postdoc Eliana Duarte, now at the Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg, was recently featured on the Modellansatz Podcast from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The series, initiated by Gudrun Thäter and Sebastian Ritterbusch, focuses on the promotion of mathematics and its applications, in the format of conversations with mathematicians.

During the Macaulay2 workshop that she organised at our institute, Eliana Duarte met with Gudrun Thäter to record one of the podcast's episodes. In their stimulating conversation, Eliana and Gudrun discussed the applications of algebraic geometry to everyday life problems, from biology to statistics and computer graphics. Finally, they also talked about Eliana's personal academic journey as a female mathematician, from elementary school to her current job in Magdeburg.
